A homlokzati hőszigetelések új és felújításra kerülő régi épületek utólagos hőszigetelésére egyaránt alkalmasak. Hatásosságuk elsősorban a szigetelő réteg anyagától és vastagságától függ.
A módszer és az anyag kiválasztását, valamint a hőszigetelő réteg vastagságának meghatározását szakemberre kell bízni.
A hőszigetelés általában a homlokzati fal külső oldalára kerül. Belső oldali hőszigetelést csak ritkán, rövid ideig fűtött épületek (helyiségek) esetében tanácsos készíteni.
A homlokzati falak hőszigetelése kiegészíthető a padlás és a fűtetlen pince födémének hőszigetelésével. A padlásfödémet kívülről, a pincefödémet alulról kell hőszigetelni. A hőszigetelő anyag réteg vastagságának meghatározását ez esetben is szakemberre kell bízni.
